Starlink has been our go-to choice in mobile internet this past year. With speeds over 200mbps download, low latency, and unlimited data without being throttled, we have no complaints. In August 2024 alone, we used nearly 850GB of data. We use our Starlink daily for online gaming, working, and making hours of video calls every day. But as of October 10th, 2024, Starlink will increase the price by 10%. Making mobile internet even more expensive than it already was.
Starlink Roam Unlimited Now $165 A Month.
Luckily, though, it will not be a flat price increase without any added value. With the new higher price, Roam Unlimited plans will gain access to perks that were previously only available if you paid for mobile priority data, such as in-motion use up to 100 Mph and international travel (two months per trip). The new Roam Unlimited plan also finally officially supports the use of offshore in coastal waters up to twelve nautical miles.
In-motion use is a big feature being added to the Roam Unlimited plan. This will allow anyone with their Starlink mounted to their campervan’s roof to use Starlink while on the go. Previously, Starlink had to be shut down before driving to avoid issues, as in-motion use was not officially supported.
Here is a list of what the new Roam Unlimited plan includes:
- Unlimited data.
- In-motion use up to 100 Mph.
- Pause and un-pause service at any time (billed as one-month increments)
- International travel up to 2 months per trip.
- Coastal coverage up to 12 nautical miles off the coast
Overall, the features included in the updated Roam Unlimited plan make the price increase a little less painful, but having mobile internet for vanlife and RVing costs $165 a month still hurts a bit. If you do not need unlimited data and use less than 165GB of data a month, the new Roam 50GB plan might be a better fit.
Roam 50GB Plan Is Now available on All Starlink Hardware.
The Roam 50GB plan is now available on all Starlink dishes. With the Roam 50GB plan, you get all the same features of the Roam Unlimited plan but are capped at 50GB a month, with the option of opting into additional data at $1/GB. This means if you use less than 165GB of internet data a month, it is cheaper to get the Roam 50GB plan and then pay for data as you go.
If you go this route, just make sure you monitor your data usage inside the Starlink app to ensure you don’t exceed the amount of data you want per month.
TL;DR
Starlinks Roam Unlimited plan is increasing by $15 monthly and will now be $165 monthly. This price increase includes in-motion use, international travel for two months, and offshore use up to twelve nautical miles. Roam 50GB is now available on all Starlink hardware, and you can opt-in to $1/GB of data you use past the 50GB cap.
